He is very critical about the contribution of the academics, accusing them of aping the west and particularly the Americans blindly. He strongly feels that some innovation should have been produced for the Indian conditions by now.

His slogan orthodontics should be a house hold word initiated him to print the first booklet on Orthodontics “BRACES-WHAT YOU MUST KNOW” , informing the patient and parent about the treatment procedure and the science behind Orthodontics,in simple lay man terms and language.He translated the booklet into Gujarati for the benefit of the local population.

Dr Jayant Dehadrai is a practitioner in the western India megapolis of Ahmedabad . He established his practice in 1975 immediately after his MDS in Orthodontics in December 1974 from the prestigious King Georges” Medical College. Dental College and Hospital, Lucknow. Known as the Mecca of Indian Orthodontics, imparting the finest training in Orthodontics India.

As Hon Secreatry of the now defunct Indian Orthodontic Society Vellore, he conducted the affairs as chief functionary for the period 2002 to 2006, immaculately, taking the profession to greater heights. He made significant contribution in the administration of the Society and initiated the members to dream big beyond the shores of the country.

His obsession with an independent existence for the Orthodontic practitioner prompted him to coin slogans for car and scooter stickers. “ORTHODONTIST - THE SMILE ARCHITECT “ AND “ORTHODONTIST- THE BRACES SPECIALIST” are still seen on cars and are sought after by orthodontists to stick on their new cars. They helped provide a distinct identity to the Indian Orthodontist.

Dr Jayant Dehadrai is a pioneer in Practice Management having made several original presentations at national level since 1994. The need for this area of application prompted him to launch “DENTAL BUSINESS SCHOOL” with an intention to address the missing curriculum of the Indian education system. He rightly feels that although the student is taught a profession, no knowledge is imparted on how to run the profession.

He is of the opinion that Indian orthodontics is unnecessarily influenced by the American thought process. Given the Indian conditions, the term should be practice development and not practice management. It is very difficult to establish a practice in India, as the members of the general public are not easily conversant with the term orthodontist. For them any dentist would do when it comes to the problem of the teeth.

In addition to running a vibrant private practice, Dr Jayant Dehadrai is a very skilled photographer, engaging speaker on a variety of subjects and an innovator, capable of new idea all the time. Music is a passion and so is travel. A true live wire, it is said that it is an education to sit with him and listen to him on a variety of subjects .

His innovative skills have taken him far, he recently launched “INDIAN INSTITUTE OF ORTHODONTICS” a first of it's kind organization in the world to impart orthodontic training. The institute offers a variety of courses in orthodontics.

Socially, Dr Dehadrai is a Rotarian with the intent to do good. He was introduced to the Rotary fold, in 1981 when he was selected as an outstanding professional in the area for the Rotary Foundation Group Study Exchange Program to tour Scotland. Born in 1949, Dr Dehadrai is into his 63rd year. His youthful vibrant personality, ever green thought process, vitality and energy are truly infectious. A family man, he is devoted to his lovely wife Smita who is a home maker. His son Mukul is a Civil Engineer with an MS from Purdue University in USA. His daughter Anushree is a lawyer having trained at the prestigious Indian Law Society Law College at Pune.

An entrepreneur to the core, he is forever indebted to the city of Ahmedabad for having adopted him and provided conditions to initiate a fiercely independent thought process.
